Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was named for the current king of Prussia, on whose 49th birthday he was born. He was discovered to be talented in several arts early on, and went on to study them at several well-respected schools. He was actually raised in a very Christian environment, and was an avid student of both philosophy and religion. His often contradictory ideas concerning religion and philosophy have led to much debate among both modern philosophers and his contemporaries.
