Cat poop piled high in Georgia hoarders' house

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. (UPI) -- A Georgia animal control officer said he found cat feces piled more than a foot high in some parts of a trailer home that housed more than 160 felines.
Chris Patterson, animal control supervisor for Walker County, said he visited the small Chickamauga trailer home Thursday on a complaint from a neighbor who reported a strong odor of cat urine coming from the house and he discovered the home housed more than 160 cats, as well as two women.
Patterson said one of the women told him there were about a dozen cats already living in the structure when she moved in about five years ago and she decided to allow them to stay.
"Then they started multiplying," Patterson told the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
Patterson said there were piles of cat feces measuring more than a foot high in some areas of the home. He said some of the cats were feral from lack of care and many were kept in cages inside the residence.
The officer said officials are seeking room for the felines in nearby shelters. He said many will likely have to be euthanized.
Patterson said the women appeared to be well-intentioned in giving the cats a place to live, but the fact is "they can't take care of that many" cats.
