SACRAMENTO (UPI) -- A California chihuahua got stuck in the tub while its owners were attempting to give it a bath on Sunday in Sacramento.

The bathing session got scary for the pooch, Bailey, when his foot got stuck.

"He jumped up and when he came down, his foot landed in the drain and it got stuck," the dog's owner told CBS Sacramento.

Bailey's owners couldn't wriggle his foot free, so they called for professional help.

"The dog was really stuck and was getting really upset about being stuck," said animal control officer Mechelle Crites.

An hour later, more reinforcements were called in. Veterinarian Jean Rabinowitz came and gave Bailey a shot to knock him out.

"Pretty soon I found myself on a hot Sunday afternoon with a chihuahua and three firefighters in a bathtub," she said. It was pretty tough. It took about 20 hammers each time, each time the dog and I were bouncing in the bathtub.

Firefighters were eventually able to free Bailey from the bath, but the tub was destroyed.
