Mom bound to chair escapes robbery

DECATUR, Ga. (UPI) -- Police in Decatur, Ga., say they are probing what was likely an attempted robbery after a mother who was bound to a chair escaped her home and called for help.

Police said they think two robbers were waiting in the family's garage when the mother and her three children went home, WSB-TV, Atlanta reported Thursday.

The robbers bound the woman to a chair with handcuffs and tape before confining her to the basement, police said. Officials said the men also bound the woman's husband when he arrived home.

Officials haven't said how the woman managed to escape stop a driver for help.

"There was this lady in a chair, just bound," Keith Daniels told WSB. "She said, 'Please help me call 911. My kids are in the house and we're being robbed. My husband's in there'."

Police said the robbers fled the scene in the woman's van by the time they arrived.

No one in the family was injured, the report said.
