Teen: One of her rapists had been a friend
Sgt. Lori Curran of the Richmond Police Department said Thursday the 16-year-old, identified only as Jane Doe, told investigators she knew some of the other assailants casually, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
"She did feel betrayed that the one she knew and trusted would let this happen to her," Curran said. "She had a sense of trust from the others she recognized from the neighborhood."
Police found the girl unconscious and naked at the back of Richmond High School. A woman reported seeing her and said several others had known she was there but did not want to call police.
The alleged rape took place during an Oct. 16 homecoming dance.
Six people have been charged: Marcelles James Peter, 17, Ari Abdallah Morales, 16, Cody Ray Smith, 15, Elvis Torrentes, 21, Manuel Ortega, 19, and Jose Carlos Montano, 18. The three juveniles have been charged as adults.
A seventh suspect is free pending DNA testing.
