Quakes hit Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan
The earthquake, measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, struck Sunday near Kyrgyzstan border with China and destroyed the city of Nura, the quake's epicenter RIA Novosti, the Russian news agency, reported.
Meanwhile, an earthquake with epicenter in the Hindu Kush shook central Afghanistan Monday, CNN reported. There were no reports of casualties or damage from the stricken region.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the early morning quake in Afghanistan, centered about 40 miles south of Kabul, was of 6.0-magnitude.The Hindu Kush mountainous region is along the border with Pakistan.
In China, the National Seismological Network reported a 6.8 magnitude earthquake shook northwest China Sunday night but no casualties had been reported, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The epicenter was in a mountainous area about 60 miles from Wuqia County in the Kizilsu Kirgiz region.
In the Kyrgyzstan quake, Health Ministry official Dinara Sagynbayeva said 25 bodies have been recovered.
Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev is expected to visit the affected areas, RIA Novosti reported.
