Hanna disorganized near Leeward Islands

MIAMI (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Hanna was poorly organized Friday near the Leeward Islands, U.S. forecasters in Miami reported.

At 5 a.m. Friday, the center of Hanna was about 245 miles northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. The storm was moving west-northwest at 14 mph.

Forecasters said Hanna was likely to remain on a direction between west-northwest and northwest through Friday and gradually move away from the Northern Leeward Islands well to the northeast of the Bahamas Friday and Saturday.

The storm's maximum sustained winds were near 50 mph with higher gusts and Hanna is expected to strengthen gradually, possibly becoming a hurricane by Saturday, the forecasters said.
