Dalai Lama in Mumbai hospital

MUMBAI (UPI) -- The Dalai Lama was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after being flown Thursday from his headquarters in Dharamsala in northern India.

The 73-year-old Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader has been suffering from stomach pains. Earlier this week, he canceled a trip to Mexico and the Dominican Republic with his spokesman giving exhaustion as the reason.

Mohan Rajan, a spokesman for the Lilavati Hospital, said that the Dalai Lama would undergo tests Friday, the Indian news service Sify reported. Rajan said there is no "cause for concern."

The Dalai Lama is being treated by Dr. Narendra Trivedi, the hospital's vice president. He had a routine physical examination there this month, Sify reported.

Since he fled Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama has made India his headquarters.
