Webb says he's not interested in VP
Webb, a former secretary of the U.S. Navy, said it is his intention to remain in the Senate and not serve as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee's running mate, The Hill reported. Webb reportedly was on the Illinois senator's list of possible vice presidential candidates.
"Last week I communicated to Sen. Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the U.S. Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country," Webb said. "Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for vice president."
Webb said he entered politics to make a difference in the lives of Americans and said he is "convinced that my efforts and talents toward those ends are best served in the Senate."
He added that the recent passage of his GI Bill has given him "renewed confidence that the Congress can indeed work effectively across party lines and address the concerns of our citizens."
