FORSYTH, Mont. (UPI) -- A coal train derailed in Montana early Monday,
sending the locomotive and one car partially into the Yellowstone
River, Burlington Northern Santa Fe said.
The accident, involving a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, occurred
about 1:45 a.m. along Interstate 94 about 4 miles west of Forsyth,
KTVQ-TV in Billings said. The TV station did not report any injuries.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said a crew of about 75 was working to
clean up the 10 cars that left the tracks and pick up the spilled
coal. It wasn't clear how much coal had been dumped.
Freight trains were being rerouted around the derailment site but
Amtrak service was not affected, KTVQ said.
Monday's accident followed another one near Havre Friday night, in
which cars from a BNSF freight train were blown off the tracks by high
winds.
