YANGON, Myanmar (UPI) -- A boat capsized on the Yway River in Myanmar
this week, killing 38 people, a government-run newspaper reported.
The New Light of Myanmar said there were 82 villagers on board the
ferry Mo Pa Pa Tun when it sank before dawn Tuesday after water poured
into its stern, Xinhua reported Friday. The boat was en route from
Pakeikkyi to Myaungmya, the official Chinese news agency said.
The other 44 passengers were rescued, the newspaper said.
Myaungmya is in the Ayeyawaddy region, which was devastated recently
by typhoon Nargis -- which killed 84,537 people, injured 19,359 and
left 53,836 missing.
