In 1803, the U.S. Supreme Court established the principle of judicial review with its Marbury vs. Madison decision written by Chief Justice John Marshall.
In 1868, Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Abraham Lincoln, became the first U.S. president to be impeached. He was acquitted in the Senate trial by a single vote.
