MARSALA, Italy (UPI) -- A patrol officer with the Italian Coast Guard was recorded saving a kitten's life by giving it CPR after it was found floating in the water.

The Coast Guard said in a YouTube post the patrol boat crew was alerted by some children in the port town of Marsala to a seemingly lifeless kitten floating in the sea.

A patrol officer jumped in and brought the feline back to the boat, where he performed rescue breaths and chest compressions on the drenched kitten.

The video shows the officer performing CPR on the kitten for more than a minute before the feline begins to breath on its own and lets out a series of weak meows.

The kitten was taken to the Marsala maritime district office, where it was adopted by staff and dubbed Charlie.
