Dog rescued from 30-foot sinkhole in Pennsylvania

CHARLEROI, Pa. (UPI) -- Rescue teams in Pennsylvania helped retrieve a dog that had fallen into a 30-foot sinkhole.
Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Company shared photos of the rescue to Facebook as they managed to bring the dog to safety above ground.
"Putting their lives ahead of the dog, the request was made to command to enter the hole to attempt to get to the bottom and try to bring the dog up and out," the Facebook post states.
This initial request was denied, as there was concern that firefighters entering the hole would cause it to collapse, leaving them trapped inside.
The team then decided to turn to an alternative method and used a rope to hoist the dog up from the hole.
"With some good thinking and strong will, and the proper tools, crews were able to sling the dog and extricate it from the hole/shaft," they wrote.
