TEMECULA, Calif. (UPI) -- Firefighters in California said they had to cut through a drain pipe to rescue a dog in an operation lasting about an hour.

The Riverside County Fire Department said Riverside and Cal Fire firefighters responded about 11 p.m. Saturday to a report of a man and a dog trapped in a drain pipe in Temecula.

The responders arrived to find the man was able to free himself from the pipe, but the dog remained trapped.

Firefighters said it took about an hour to cut through the train pipe and free the dog, a Great Pyrenees.

The man and canine were not injured, firefighters said.

Photos of the rescue were shared on Twitter by Cal Fire Rescue.
