Stolen kitten returned by remorseful thief in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (UPI) -- A guilt-ridden Minnesota kitten thief returned the pilfered pussycat to the pet store with a note explaining he stole the cat to be a Valentine's Day gift.
The Ruff Start Rescue, an animal shelter that partners with the Minneapolis PetSmart to have its adoptable animals displayed at the store, said the 3-month-old kitten, named Wednesday, was stolen from the store Friday and the man accused of taking the feline was caught on the store's security cameras.
The rescue said Wednesday was found less than 24 hours later in a box outside of a PetSmart store in nearby Roseville. A note left with the kitten explained the man's reason for taking the feline.
"I didn't have money and had planned to give the kitten as a Valentine's Day gift," the note read. I'm sorry.
Azure Davis, president and founder of Ruff Start Rescue, said police told officials a report has been filed but officers will not be investigating the theft of the $150 kitten.
