I save the cardboard tubes from Christmas wrap. I put a slit at one end and slip one end of the tree lights into it. I then wind the lights around the tube in single strands until I get to the end. I cut the tube off at this point,cut another slit and slip the other end of the lights into it. This keeps the lights untangled and very easy to unwind while trimming the tree next time.
