De-Clutter the Floor First So You Know What it Looks Like!

Diane Palmer
Do you come home from work, only to trip over books, backpacks, socks and the like?. You tell the kids to move them, and the do, but they just start another pile somewhere else?. Does this sound like your house? Then its time for a few tweaks in the daily routine.

Everyone is talking about "de-cluttering" your house, your life, your car, and just about everything, there are TV shows on getting organized, and lots of books, but yet does it really happen at your house?. On the TV shows, they come in with a team, and basically organize your place for you... well most of us don't have a team that we can rely on for this chore, just whoever lives at the house, is your team.

The best way to get some organizing and de-cluttering going on, is to start very simple. When you are going through your daily routines, take note of some areas that could use some work. For example: If you have a two story home, then you probably have a pile of stuff building up on the floor at the bottom and top of the stairs, or on the couch, or chairs or banister, closest to the stairs maybe??.

Go to the dollar store, or a good discount store (there is no need to spend hundreds on de-cluttering aids!) Find two or three good baskets that can fit on one side of the stairs, on the tread but not where it will get tripped over. Label them for your kids, or whoever hangs out upstairs, and when you are going through some basic tidy up routines, throw things into the appropriate basket, such as mail, socks, books, papers even laundry if you have the room..

At the end of the day, get the kids, or whoever, to take their basket of stuff upstairs. Get a couple of baskets for near the door you use the most at the end of the day, and have one for keys and another for the mail. If you don't have room by the door, then on the edge of the kitchen counter, you could fit a couple of tiny baskets, just to keep these things neat.

Now, at least your living area will look somewhat organized, and by having these baskets around, you have a place to throw things, when you need to clean up in a hurry, such as for unexpected company. free tips to get rid of clutter click here for some more great ideas and find your floor again!
