Residents seek answer on cancer rumors
A state and county health investigation that began in June was unable to determine whether The Acreage, an area with about 45,000 residents, had a higher than normal rate of brain cancer, especially among children.
The second phase of the study, to begin in the next few weeks, will involve interviews with families of 10 children in The Acreage who were diagnosed with brain cancer from 1995 to 2008, The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Tuesday.
Monday night, about 100 residents of The Acreage met with government health officials, most of the residents expressing frustration at the lack of information.
At least one resident, however, said he wasn't concerned with rumors of excessive radiation in the water or a higher than normal cancer rate.
"I am an environmental engineer," Leah Oberlin said. "I am not afraid to live in The Acreage."
