Tip: Cage Tomatoes
National Gardening Association
Vigorous tomato varieties need to be supported to keep plants and
fruit off the ground. For the simplest support construct a
6-foot-high, 3-foot-diameter cylindrical wire cage around the plants
and anchor it to the ground.

I had written a comment about my solution/alternative to wire vages but it was too long. I've sent it to the editor for possible future article. In the meantime, look on page 5 or 6 of the photo gallery for my tomato plants in cages made from PVC pipe.
