Another method of supporting pole beans (which has been mentioned before in this post) is letting them grow up corn stalks (the "3 sisters"), with squash growing on ground for living mulch.

A good way to form a make shift support is to put bamboo poles together with twine and form a trellis. works great on a lot of plants that need support, and doesnt look bad either.
