White to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

Black has violated a good many principles of development such as not getting castled, playing with the queen too soon, and too many pawn moves. It’s your turn to show him the error of his ways.

Solution:

This is from Pahls-Halberschmidt, Berlin, 1996 and started out this way: 1.e4 g6 2.d4 d6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.Be3 c6 5.Qd2 Qc7 6.f4 Nd7 7.Nf3 e5 8.0–0–0 b5 9.dxe5 b4 10.Na4 Qa5 e11.b3 dxe5 12.fxe5 Nxe5 (SEE DIAGRAM) and now White forced Black to resign after 13.Bb6 Resigns as 13…axb6 14.Qd8 mate!
