Black’s king is cornered, his h6 pawn is weak and his dark squared bishop is desperately trying to hold the defensive position together. White, on the other hand is ready to go for the mating attack!

Solution:

From Parma-Ramirez, 1963, this is a great example of how to attack along the files when there are mate threats along the g- and h- files. Getting rid of that bishop, who is doing so much work, should have been one of your first considerations. 1.Rxg7 Kxg7 [1...Rxc3 2.Qxh6#] 2.Rg3+ Kh7 [2...Kh8 3.Qxh6#] And now a key move in the whole mating attack. 3.Bg6+ Kg7 [3...fxg6 4.Rxg6 exf5 5.Qxh6#] 4.Bh7+ Kxh7 [4...Kh8 5.Bg8 Rxg8 6.Qxh6#] 5.Rh3 Rxc3 [5...Rfd8 6.Qxh6+ Kg8 7.Qh8# (7.Rg3#) ] 6.Qxh6+ Kg8 7.Qh7#
