We might consider this a difficult problem to solve, but if you’ve been coming here for a while, it will be a great deal easier if you just remember the mantra we’ve often repeated here.

Solution:

Did you remember to look at all checks and captures? 1.Rxg7+ Kxg7 [1...Kh8 2.Qh4 Kxg7 (2...h5 3.Qe7 R8f7 4.Qxf7 Rxf7 5.gxf7 Be6 6.f8Q+ Bg8 7.Qxg8#) 3.Qe7+ R8f7 4.gxf7+ Kh8 5.f8Q+ Rxf8 6.Qg7#] 2.Nh5+ Rxh5 [2...Kg8 3.Qc7 Bd7 4.Qxd7 R5f7 5.gxf7+ Kh7 6.Qg4 Rxf7 7.Qg8#] 3.Qc7+ Bd7 4.Qxd7+ Kf6 5.Qd6+ Kg7 6.Qe7+ Rf7 7.Qxf7+ Kh8 8.Qh7# Sacrificing the rook to gain access to the king by means of the long moves of the queen (and other rook) is very smart, but the help of the advanced pawn and the knight should not be overlooked either. Great teamwork!
