Black to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

This position is a golden oldie from 1837: Horwitz-Bledow. Black plays one move and it’s resign time!

Solution:

It’s that ol’ devil f2 weakness! White would have the advantage if Black just didn’t have that one move to wipe him out. 1...Nxe4 2.Bxe7 (Might as well as otherwise White would be two pieces down in a hopeless position. The chess way of honorably falling on your sword) Bxf2+ 3.Kf1 Ng3#
