Black to Play

Pete Tamburro on

Published in Chess Puzzles

The first move by Black may be obvious, but the second one is another story!

Solution:

1...Ne2+ 2.Kh1 Kd7!! A great lesson! The king clears the way for the other rook. Now, Black is threatening to mate with 3…Rxh2+! 4.Kxh2 Rh8 mate! 3.Bf4 [ To defend against the sacrifice. 3.Bb5+ doesn’t help as 3…Kd6 is the reply. Funny would be 3.h3?? Rxh3#] 3...Nxf4 4.f3 Ne2 5.h3 Ng3+ 6.Kg1 Nxf1 7.Kxf1 and Black is a rook up with an easy win.
