Leo Tolstoy studied law and Oriental languages in college before
leaving the university - he was declared unwilling and unable to
learn. His greatest novels, "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina," were
written early in his marriage, which later devolved into what has
since been named the unhappiest relationship in literary history. He
suffered from depression for most of his life, and died in 1910
shortly after deciding to pursue the life of a wandering ascetic, a
path he had been considering for decades.
