K: I love what you wrote, complete with musical notes! I wish I knew how to add those. "Battle of New Orleans" is a favorite here too. My husband and I met in the summer of 1959 'way up north' and this was a big hit so it kind of became our song. The following year, late summer we were married, and "North to Alaska" became very popular for Johnny. He didn't get to enjoy it for long because on Nov. 5th,1960, was when he was tragically killed, but even to this day,it's nice to listen to his songs.
I love Johnny Horton. I grew up listening to his songs on old records (LPs) ... does anyone remember the "Battle of New Orleans?"... ♪♫ "In 1814 we took a little trip, along the Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip'... we took a little bacon and we took a little beans, and we fought the bloody British in the town of new of New Orleans... We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'.. there wasn't 'bout as many as there was a while ago... we fired once more and they began to runnin', on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico..." ♪♫
OK, Billy! Follow in Johnny Horton's tracks and you'll find ice! Johnny Horton, age 35 when he died, had spent quite a lot of time in Alaska honeing his art, before moving back south to record other favorite's such as,"Sink The Bismark" "Honky Tonk Man", "Whispering Pines" Battle of New Orleans, Johnny Rep, etc. Does anyone remember some others? P.S. This would have been about the same time, Bil Keane put these comics out in Newspaper sindication.
What are those 2 empty spaces doing there? I hate it when someone goes to post and says nothing! What's that suppose to mean? Iceman, is 'Paradise Valley' a real place? Where is 'Mount Union'? Is that where you live?
How about,"When It's Springtime in Alaska,(it's 40 below!)
