'Pineapple Express' edited for UK run
The film, which was a hit in the United States this summer, is to open in England Sept. 12. In it, Rogen plays a marijuana-smoking process server who goes on the lam with his pot dealer, played by James Franco, after witnessing a murder.
"We had to remove stuff from the movie to get the rating that we needed. We're actually more responsible in the U.K. than we are in the States," Rogen told the BBC.
With an R-rating in the United States, the film is restricted to those who are 17 and older or viewing the film with an adult. In the United Kingdom, only those 15 and older will be allowed to see the movie, the British broadcaster said.
"There's a scene in the movie when we sell (drugs) to high school kids -- that's still in there I assume," Rogen explained. "But in the American version of the scene we also smoke weed with them and hang out. It's a really explicit scene of us getting high with these 11-year-olds. I think for the U.K. they've kind of softened it a bit."
