Source: Bale didn't lay a finger on anyone

LONDON (UPI) -- "The Dark Knight" star Christian Bale flew into a rage after his mother insulted his wife in London, but he didn't assault anyone, a source told The Daily Mail.

Bale was arrested on Tuesday, but was not formally charged after his mother, Jenny, and sister, Sharon, filed an assault claim against him, following an alleged incident at the Dorchester Hotel Sunday night.

Bale, who plays Batman in "The Dark Knight," has denied the allegations.

"Christian was stressed, but he didn't lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him, and his wife," a source told The Daily Mail. "Christian's attitude is that this was his mother's fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having. Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room. Normally Christian would just call a friend and go out to a pub to cool off. But he was literally trapped into this confrontation with his mother and sister because there was an army of fans and paparazzi outside."

The Daily Mail said Bale is also said to be having some trouble in his marriage and reportedly is depressed because of the death of his "Knight" co-star Heath Ledger.

Jenny Bale is not speaking to the media about specifics of the incident.

"There was a family situation, but the police are handling it and I cannot say any more at the moment. We didn't call the police to the scene," she told the newspaper.
