'Click and Clack' earn TV series
Howard K. Grossman, who will serve as executive producer for the new animated series, said garage owners Tom and Ray Magliozzi are ready to have their freewheeling series on National Public Radio taken to the visual level on PBS, The New York Times reported Sunday.
"The ongoing theme to the show is the guys are always trying to find ways to do less work and make more money," Grossman said of "Click & Clack's As the Wrench Turns."
The PBS series based on the so-called Tappet Brothers' show, which regularly draws 4.3 million listeners, will premiere July 9 and two episodes will air each week for six weeks.
Grossman told the Times that finding the right network for the new series was difficult given the level of apprehension by executives at HBO, ABC and the Cartoon Network.
"People were a little scared of it," he told the newspaper, adding one network "couldn't figure out a way to market a radio show adapted to television."
