More McConaughey photogs report attacks
A photographer trying to photograph and videotape actor Matthew McConaughey at the beach Saturday was the first to tell police he was attacked. The 29-year-old paparazzo told sheriff's deputies that a large group of surfers near Paradise Cove in Malibu approached him and other paparazzi about 2 p.m. and demanded that they stop taking pictures and videotaping.
"They formed a semicircle in front of his camera and they said they didn't want him to film," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said. "They got into an argument, and he indicated that he received injuries. ... (They) took the video camera and threw it in the water."
The four photographers who spoke up Monday said they were beaten and had their camera equipment damaged or stolen, the Los Angeles Times reported.
"We have extra deputies that will be focusing attention there," Whitmore said. "Our whole goal is to contain this situation, and we will."
McConaughey is an avid surfer and film actor best known for his roles in "Fool's Gold," "We Are Marshall," and "A Time to Kill."
