LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- "Entertainment Tonight" said it is re-examining a
story it ran last week about U.S actress Angelina Jolie giving birth,
after other media outlets challenged it.
The U.S. entertainment news program ran a story last Friday announcing
Jolie had given birth to Brad Pitt's twins, and stating both mother
and babies were doing well.
However, quickly after the item ran on the "ET" Web site, several
other media outlets, including E! Online and People.com, quoted
representatives for Jolie and Pitt who said the story wasn't true.
"ET" stuck by its report and ran it on that night's television
program.
E! Online said "ET" issued a statement Wednesday, admitting it might
have fallen victim to a hoax.
"'Entertainment Tonight' takes this very seriously and is, of course,
concerned that the show may have been victimized by someone allegedly
posing as a member of Ms. Jolie's team," the statement said. "We are
actively investigating the matter and are reaching out to law
enforcement agencies."
E! Online also said an "ET" representative insisted the show wasn't
aware of the existence of an imposter until Monday when Jolie's
attorneys issued a statement to media outlets warning them of the
situation.
