GRAND LAKE, Colo. (UPI) -- Deputies responding to a Colorado crash discovered a 200-pound black bear had broken into a man's SUV, put it in neutral and crashed it into a tree.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office said the bear broke into Danny Archer's SUV Oct. 15 in Grand Lake and ended up trapped inside the vehicle.

Archer said the bear apparently used the door handle to get into the unlocked vehicle and knocked the vehicle into neutral.

"The bear put the car in neutral and it rolled back across the street into a spruce tree," Archer told KUSA-TV.

Deputies contacted Colorado Parks and Wildlife, which sent officers to safely release the uninjured bear from the vehicle.

Archer said his insurance won't cover his damaged seats or chewed-up gear shifter.
