TONGREN, China (UPI) -- Authorities in China said no one was seriously injured when a car carrying five people rear-ended a semi truck and ended up being dragged for 16 miles.

Police said the car rear-ended the truck Tuesday in Tongren, Guizhou Province, when visibility was severely impaired by heavy smog.

The truck driver failed to notice the crash and the car ended up partially wedged underneath the trailer, where it was dragged for more than 16 miles.

Investigators said four people managed to escape the car while it was being dragged, while a fifth person remained behind after fainting during the incident.

The last person in the car was rescued without injuries.
