FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (UPI) -- Firefighters in Michigan helped rescue a newborn kitten trapped underneath a concrete culvert.

The city of Farmington Hills shared photos of the firefighters as they pulled out the tiny black kitten that had been trapped 10 feet inside the hole.

"While our focus is obviously providing the best possible fire protection and emergency medical services to the citizens in our community, our firefighters have also rescued countless animals over the years," Farmington Hills Fire Chief Jon Unruh said. Many of us are animal lovers and situations like this definitely make everyone involved feel good.

Lieutenant Jason Baloga and Inspector Dan Rickard, as well as Battalion Chief Gary Delp and EMS Coordinator Jim Etzin responded to the scene and used a flashlight, a pike pole and a highly-adhesive trauma dressing to pull the kitten up out of the hole.

The kitten, which firefighters believed to be about two days old, was transported to a local animal hospital.
