KITCHENER, Ontario (UPI) -- A lost deer burst through the window of a Tim Hortons in Canada on Monday afternoon.

The deer had reportedly been seen running through the parking lot of a nearby carpet outlet before it came crashing through the window of the coffee shop leaving the floor covered in shattered glass.

"We thought a car was coming through," a staffer told the CBC. Something big – but we never thought it would be an animal.

It was unclear how the deer wound up in the primarily industrial area, but customer Sid McLean told CTV he believed it may have been lost.

"I guess the deer lost its way. It came through the window and never stopped," he said. "Once it got to the washrooms, there was no place for it to go. It turned around and it was heading for the other window.

McLean said "three or four" people attempted to control the deer, which was wounded and had to be humanely euthanized.

Staff said no people were injured in the incident, although the window was boarded up and the restaurant was closed briefly.

The restaurant reopened later in the day after a spokesperson for Tim Hortons said that it had been "thoroughly cleaned and disinfected."
