COLUMBUS, Ohio (UPI) -- An Ohio police officer was filmed by a resident rescuing a baby deer that passed out from exhaustion in the middle of a road.

Rebecca Wagner said in a Facebook post the fawn apparently collapsed in the middle of a Columbus street after it became disoriented while following its mother across the road.

"A very sweet young lady and myself kept cars from running her over as we tried to decide what to do or who to call," Wagner wrote.

She said Columbus Police Department Officer Mitchell arrived "out of the blue like a super hero" and made a phone call to a friend with deer expertise.

Mitchell, acting on the advice of his friend, picked up the fawn, which seemed to spring back to life in the officer's arms.

"He gently picked her up and moved her to safety where the momma could see her. We were assured that momma would go to her once she felt the coast was clear! What a nice moment in time," Wagner wrote. Thanks Matthew Mitchell! You are a ROCKSTAR in my book!
