Deer captured in downtown Chicago parking garage

CHICAGO (UPI) -- Chicago police and Animal Control officers responded to a downtown Chicago parking garage to rescue a deer hiding behind cars in the basement level.
Samuel Semere, who works at the parking garage at St. Clair and Grand, said he and a coworker chased the doe into the garage when they spotted her running in the street about 7 a.m. Monday.
"I don't want her to get killed or get hurt," Semere told CBS Chicago.
Police arrived with Animal Control officers and the deer was located hiding behind cars on the basement level of the parking structure.
Animal Control and police officers arrived on the scene and attempted to allow the deer to calm down on its own, but the presence of moving cars and the attention from authorities caused the animal to continue to panic.
The deer was shot two times with a tranquilizer gun before eventually calming down and curling up on the ground for a rest. The deer was given another tranquilizer dose and loaded into a transport vehicle.
The doe, which did not appear to be injured, was released into a nearby forest preserve.
