SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- A California man turned his proposal into a literal work of art by asking for his girlfriend's hand in marriage while the two were acting in a "live mural."

San Francisco artist Alexa Meade transformed the future bride and groom Daniel Levine and Cristina Cordova into a living work of art and also captured video of the proposal.

"It's a real proposal! A painted Daniel Levine asks Cristina Cordova's hand in marriage," she wrote.

Meade's work involves painting real life subjects to make them appear like part of a 2-D illustration.

The video shows the couple covered in black and white paint to create the illusion that they are painted 2-D images on a wall with the message "new mural soon" written on it.

Meade can be heard instructing Cordova to stand as Levine remained on one knee to deliver the surprise proposal.

Cordova then exclaims in disbelief before the two share an embrace.
