'Highly venomous' snake loses fight to larger lizard in Australia

WALPOLE, Australia (UPI) -- A Western Australia Parks and Wildlife officer captured a photo of a confrontation between a snake and a large lizard that ended unfavorably for the serpent.
The photo, snapped by Frankland district flora officer Janine Liddelow, shows a "highly venomous" tiger snake's reign of terror coming to an end at the jaws of a hungry heath monitor.
"Dinnertime! This highly venomous tiger snake didn't stand a chance when a hungry southern heath monitor came looking for something to munch on," the department wrote on Facebook.
"Captured by our Frankland district flora officer Janine Liddelow, this shot was taken on a forest track north-east of Walpole. The southern heath monitor can be found north and south of the Swan River and in the State's far south-west. Growing up to 1.5m [5 feet], it has a diet of birds, reptiles, small mammals, eggs and carrion -- dead animal flesh," the post read.
