Escaped kangaroo returned to Ohio home

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (UPI) -- Police in North Ridgeville, Ohio, responded to calls of a loose kangaroo on Friday morning.
North Ridgeville police shared photos of the kangaroo on Facebook after finding the exotic pet hopping alongside a local road.
"We learn a lot of things at the academy. This isn't one of them." The post read.
Police were quickly able to identify the kangaroo, named Foster, as the pet of local couple Candice and Joe Hanna and ensured that it got home safely.
"We got a call and were asked if our kangaroo was missing around 6 a.m.," Candice told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Sure enough he was not in his heated barn, though we can't figure out how he got away.
Hanna said she didn't believe Foster could have gotten over the eight-foot fence that surrounds the couple's farm where they keep various rescued animals.
Owning a kangaroo is legal in Ohio, with proper permits, and Hanna said police often visit the farm and are well acquainted with the animals.
"The officers come over here with their families to see the animals," she said. We're glad he knew to call us as soon as he recognized Foster.
