VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (UPI) -- A Virginia man defied odds and came away with a $2 million dollar prize after buying duplicate lottery tickets.

When Bernard Bennick couldn't remember whether or not he had purchased a ticket for Virginia Lottery's Bank a Million game he decided to buy another ticket using the exact same numbers. When the winners were announced he realized that not only had he indeed bought two tickets, but both were winners.

"I went to bed, but I couldn't sleep," Bennick said about the experience picking a winning ticket. Then I discovered I had the second winning ticket and I really couldn't sleep!

Bennick bought two identical tickets playing the numbers 3-7-11-20-23-33 all six of which matched the drawing numbers, winning him the top prize. According to the rules of the Bank a Million Game the grand prize winner receives a payout that totals to $1 million after taxes.

The tickets were purchased at two separate Food Lion locations while Bennick was on vacation visiting friends in Virginia Beach. Each store will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia lottery for selling a winning ticket.

The Bank a Million game offers prizes between $4 and $1million. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million while the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 18.3.
