FREMANTLE, Australia (UPI) -- An Australian man who spotted a solo seal chasing fish in a port city donned his snorkel and grabbed his GoPro to film a swim with the animal.

Dirk Nienaber, who posted the video to his Stargazer Pictures channel on YouTube, said he was fishing in Fremantle, Western Australia, when he caught sight of a seal chasing the small schools of fish.

"Despite the cold water I quickly got my snorkel from the car and jumped into the water with the beast and filmed it with the GoPro amongst the rocks for an hour or so until sunset," Nienaber wrote in the video's description.

"I was amazed at how close it would swim up to me when I stayed still, but the as soon as I swam towards it, the seal retreated into the deeper water and would then suddenly appear again. After filming it, I fed it some scaly mackerel (bait) which it gulped down without hesitation, then it swam off into the night," he wrote.
