SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) -- Scenes of simulated carnage were on display at Utah's Rocky Mountain Raceway as volunteers donned makeup and prosthetic to pose as victims of an accident.

The "mass casualty drill" Sunday at the Salt Lake City raceway featured dozens of volunteers sporting simulated injuries including lacerations, impalings, fatalities and at least one severed limb as part of a training exercise to practice what employees would do in the case of a race car landing in the stands.

"All of the staffs at the track, from concessions to event staff and all things in between, they all have assignments when an incident like this happens, and we simulated all of that today," General Manager Mike Eames told KSTU-TV.

Eames said supporting agencies from around the area participated in the drill.

"Thanks to all those who participated in Sunday's mass casualty drill. Our safety team and first responders from around the valley did an excellent job," the raceway said in a Facebook post.

The raceway said there hasn't been a serious incident at the facility in many years.
