TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (UPI) -- A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in northern Michigan shared helicopter images of shipwrecks at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

The Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City shared pictures in a Facebook post dubbed "Shipwreck Sunday" showing wreckage at the bottom of Lake Michigan as seen through the post-thaw clear waters from a helicopter.

The photos, taken during a "routine patrol" Friday, depict wreckage near Sleeping Bear Point along the shoreline to Leland, Mich.

The pictured wrecks include the James McBride, a 121-foot ship that sank in 1857 and the Rising Sun, a 133-foot wooden steamer that sank in 1917.

The Coast Guard said further information on shipwrecks in the area can be viewed at the Manitou Passage Underwater Preserve website.
