SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- A San Francisco hotel offered visitors the chance to visit exotic locales without ever leaving the hotel with the help of virtual reality technology.

Frank Manchen, director of marketing for San Francisco Marriott, said participants donned an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and stood on a special platform for their "4D" vacation experience.

"The fourth dimension is really touch. It's smell, it's wind, it's sea water being blown at you," Manchen told CNET.

The locations included in the virtual tour included a Hawaii beach and the top of a London skyscraper.

Manchen said the hotel, which previously showed off the Oculus tours at locations in New York and elsewhere in the United States, is aiming to create new content for the device and offer more virtual tourism programs.
