DEWITT, N.Y. (UPI) -- A New York state man, paralyzed from the chest down since 2011, was able to walk down the aisle at his wedding thanks to a robotic device.

Matt Ficarra, 30, who broke his neck in a 2011 boating accident, was able to walk down the aisle Saturday at the Doubletree hotel in DeWitt with the help of an Ekso battery-powered robotic exoskeleton.

Ficarra said he made the seven hour drive to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network in Allentown, Pa., each week since April to practice with the device so he could walk down the aisle with his bride, Jordan Basile.

"It feels great to be married," Ficarra told Syracuse.com. And I am so happy to have met my goal of walking at my wedding.

A YouCaring page has been set up to help Ficarra purchase his own Ekso device for home use.
