SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (UPI) -- Authorities in New York state said the scene of a reported home invasion robbery turned out to be a brothel, and the alleged owner was arrested.

Southampton Detective Sgt. Lisa Costa said police responded around 6:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of several people being tied up and robbed at a Southampton home by men armed with guns and machetes.

Costa said a resident of the home, Christian Perez-Garcia, 29, told police he and several others had been tied up in the home by armed men who stole $3,500 in cash as well as phones and wallets from the other victims.

Police said two of the victims were hospitalized with knife wounds incurred during the robbery.

Costa said investigators discovered Perez-Garcia had been operating a brothel out of the home and several of the victims were customers. Police said many of the men fled the home before police arrived to avoid being arrested on prostitution charges.

Perez-Garcia was arrested on a charge of felony promotion of prostitution. Luz Espinal, 34, and Yasmin Paniagua, 40, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor prostitution.
