NEW YORK (UPI) -- A New York-based Satanist group wants to distribute literature to schools in Orange County, Fla.

The Satanic Temple plans to hand out informational pamphlets and materials to Orange County Public Schools, after atheist and evangelical Christian groups handed out materials of their own.

"If a public school board is going to allow religious pamphlets and full Bibles to be distributed to students -- as is the case in Orange County, Fla. -- we think the responsible thing to do is ensure these students are given access to a variety of differing religious opinions, as opposed to standing idly by while one religious voice dominates the discourse and delivers propaganda to youth," temple co-founder and spokesman Lucien Greaves said in a statement.

School officials said the district has not received a formal request from the temple, but reserved the right to review materials. World Changers of Florida has been allowed to distribute Bibles twice, and an atheist group handed out information last year. District counsel Woody Rodriguez said both groups were given permission in order to avoid a lawsuit.

The Satanic Temple would like to distribute materials such as The Satanic Children's Big Book of Activities. According to Greaves, the book includes information for students on protecting themselves from corporal punishment at school.
